How do I do that....  over the past 35 years we have developed a format, which we have found works extremely well for our clients. This isn't intended as anything more than a  little guidance, we would always advice you to obtain the services of a professional for your own project.

Some methods have changed, but surprisingly, many have remained basically the same. I guess there really is a right way to do somethings and they rarely change, the tools to achieve them or perhaps the materials alter but the basic process is much the same.

A good example of this is the dry lay method of block paving, it's really no different to the way the Romans laid their stone roads, or the French,Czechs, Germans laid their granite sett roads all those years ago.

So what we will do is show any differing techniques at the same time, in this way you will be able to compare and see which is the easiest or more appropriate for you.

Some years ago we created a web site that showed the sort of work we do, along with some sensible suggestions on how to go about finding, interviewing and selecting a suitable designer or contractor. You may find this helpful..   Starting a landscape Project

Ann & Chris still offer a landscape design service on an agreed fee basis - to contact them either call 816 813 0729 or email  This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Planning.

Let's start with planning, without planning it is very difficult to effectively complete a project efficiently and accurately. All projects start with an idea, that then develops into actions. The first is to gather information about products, methods, styles, colours, and a theme. Next the wise develop a plan, often to scale - although these days with CAD you can actually draw to full scale and just reduce down to print out the plan, you can also use CAD programs that produce a life like picture of the scheme - very helpful for those that have difficulty reading a two dimensional plan.

Along the way we developed a helpful questionnaire for our clients :

Please add any other comments ,the more we know the better the design.

We also suggested that a likes and dislikes list was created so we knew what to add or avoid.

Finally, rather than try and describe  items or styles that you like ,we suggest that clients either take pictures,

or copy articles from a magazine or bookmark web pages. so you can begin to build a profile picture of the type of landscape that you desire.
