Hear Steve Frey down on the Farm...
Steve Frey - Weston Red Barn Farm
We called in to the farm early one morning, just as the sun was rising, to talk to Steve before his busy day had got into full swing.
A trip to the Weston Red Barn Farm is like visiting a turn of the century working farm.
In the spirit of preserving the American dream of farming, the Red Barn Farm offers visitors the opportunity to experience a real working farmstead. We feature traditional farm animals and crops. In addition to the working farm, we offer school tours, a country store featuring our fresh produce, facilities for weddings and bonfire/hayride events and a fall festival where families can come pick pumpkins and apples, take a hayride and enjoy the country.
Come to the farm on weekends in the fall to pick pumpkins, take a hayride, visit the animals, shop in the country store and more!
Listen to Duane at the Kauffman Memorial Garden and Jan at the Nelson Atkins Museum ...
The Kauffman Memorial Garden
The Donald J. Hall Sculpture Park at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art
We interviewed Duane, the Horticulturist for the Kauffman memorial garden, just as they were changing from Spring to Summer bedding plants, in a few weeks these will again be changed to an Autumn display.
The Kauffman Memorial Garden is one of the true delights of Kansas City, the beautiful gardens are immaculately displayed, superbly maintained, drop by and take a leisurely stroll through the gardens, it will take you about 45 mins.
The Ewing and Muriel Kauffman Memorial Garden provides a tranquil place where everyone is welcome and the Kauffman legacy continues to grow.
The Ewing and Muriel Kauffman Memorial Garden draws inspiration from the couple’s journey through life and their commitment to share with others. It is an enduring gift for Kansas City that extends the legacy of a gracious couple and welcomes visitors to a vibrant landscape throughout the year.
The Kauffmans’ world travels inspired the creation of a space comparable to parks throughout Europe. The garden features bronze sculptures by Tom Corbin among lush and colorful annual and perennial plantings, pruned foliage framed by stone walls, brick walkways and playful fountains.
Open year-round through autumn’s crisp winds, winter’s quiet chill, the renewal of spring, and the warm summer sun, the Memorial Garden is the final resting place for Ewing and Muriel Kauffman. It provides a tranquil place where everyone is welcome and the Kauffman legacy continues to grow.
Powell Gardens, in partnership with the Kauffman Foundation, manages and maintains the Ewing and Muriel Kauffman Memorial Garden. In addition to tending the perennial beds and many unique trees, the staff and volunteers change the annual plant displays at least four times a year.
The Donald J Hall Sculpture Park at the Nelson - Atkins Museum of Art.
The sculpture park is celebrating 25 years this year. The sculpture park is another of those must see attractions in Kansas City.
On a rather windy evening Ann & I called in to interview the Sanders Sosland Curator, Jan Schall, Ph.D.
The park covers some 22 acres, in the middle of Kansas City, just along from the Plaza. It was opened in 1989, designed by Dan Kiley & Jaquelin Robertson, there are more than 30 sculptures.
The Sculpture Park is FREE to the public, open year round during daylight hours, and a wonderful place to have a picnic!
